Last year's Royal Queensland Food & Wine Show Beer Competition stimulated the taste buds of every thirsty Queenslander with the first ever competition held in 2010.

A feature of the 2011 Competition will be that exhibitors will be able to enter online (for a discounted entry fee).

After the success of our inaugural competition, the RNA is pleased to present an expanded competition for 2011.

New Championships to be decided in 2011 include:

  • Trophy for Champion Lager of Show
  • Trophy for Champion Ale of Show
  • Trophy for Champion Stout or Porter of Show

Together with below existing Championships, makes the 2011 Competition  even more exciting for beer exhibitors.

  • Trophy for Grand Champion Beer of Show
  • Trophy for Champion Queensland Beer of Show

Featuring a dedicated judging team of brewers, beer writers and industry figures, the RQF&WS  beer competition offers a comprehensive snapshot of the quality of Australian brewing, and a trustworthy guide for consumers.

Ten classes were judged including:

  • Golden Lagers - Continental / Pilsener Style
  • Golden Lagers - Australian Style
  • Dark Lagers
  • Pale Ales
  • Golden Ales
  • Amber and Dark Ales
  • Stouts
  • Porters
  • Wheat beers
  • Strong Beers - min alcohol content 6%.

Up to 50 points were awarded to each beer based on appearance, aroma, flavour and overall impression.

The team of judges will be headed by Master Brewer Ian Chant - ex Power Brewing & Lion Nathan & Chief of Judges, Russell Smith.

Beers submitted for competition that attracted the required points earned the right to display gold, silver, bronze or trophy show medals.  Featuring consistent design and status across all products and classes, they offered consumers the single most authentic and comprehensive guarantee of quality on the Australian market today.
