Featuring a dedicated judging team of brewers, beer writers and industry figures, the RQBS will offer a comprehensive snapshot of the quality of Australian brewing, and a trustworthy guide for consumers.
Eight classes will be judged at the RQBS including:
- Golden Lagers - Continental / Pilsener Style
- Golden Lagers - Australian Style
- Dark Lagers
- Pale / Golden Ales
- Amber and Dark Ales
- Stouts and Porters
- Wheat beers
- Strong Beers - min alcohol content 6%.
Up to 50 points can be awarded to each beer based on appearance (15), aroma (12), flavour (18), and overall impression (5).
The team of judges will be headed by Master Brewer Ian Chant - ex Power Brewing & Lion Nathan & Chief of Judges, Russell Smith.

Bernie Power – ex Power Brewing (founded 1987) Otto Haag – ex Head of brewing XXXX Lion Nathan – Ex Felsberg Winery, Stanthorpe Brennan Fielding – international beer judge and Master Brewer, Burleigh Brewing Co. Rory Gibson – Courier Mail Beer journalist Matt Kirkegaard – Professional beer writer, educator and expert Frank Correnti – Proprietor of the beer-centric Scales & Ales Restaurant, Bulimba Bernie Pramberg - Freelance sports & beer writer
Beers submitted for competition that attract the required points earn the right to display gold, silver, bronze or trophy show medals. Featuring consistent design and status across all products and classes, they offer consumers the single most authentic and comprehensive guarantee of quality on the Australian market today.
Once the medals have been awarded, a Six Pack of Judges Selection Gold Medal Beers will be made available through the independent Drinx Group liquor retail chain in S/E Queensland and online for the rest of Australia (www.drinx.com.au or www.rubberstampbeer.com.au ).
Online and offline applications for the 2010 RQFWS Beer Awards close on 9pm October 7 2010 and exhibits must be delivered by 5pm October 14, for judging on Thursday 21 October.
Entry Fees are $95 per exhibit including GST.
Exhibitors are required to comply with the relevant State legislation regarding brewer's licensing.
Conditions of Entry:
- Beer must be brewed and bottled in Australia
- For an exhibitor, multiple entries in a class are permitted. For definitions of each class see notes below
- Beer must available commercially in its bottled form.
- For the purpose of this Competition, beer, or the terms “ale”, “lager”, “pilsener”, “stout”, “porter” are synonymous with the term “beer”.
Entries shall comply with the current FZANZ Food Standard Code Standard 2.7.2 available from http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/foodstandards/foodstandardscode/
Delivery of Exhibits: Exhibits to be delivered by 5 p.m. on Thursday October 14, 2010. Exhibits are to be delivered to: Upper Commerce Building RNA Showgrounds 600 Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills, QLD. 4006
Competition Procedure: Exhibitors are to provide one carton of 24 bottles of no less than 330ml for each entry.Bottles should be commercially labelled.
