Show Camp
Show Camp is run every year at Ekka by the Brisbane Urban Environmental Education Centre for Education Queensland.
- 2009 marked the 81st anniversary of Show Camp, an Ekka tradition where selected budding journalists are given the opportunity to live-in at the Show.
- Twenty year 6 and 7 students from around Queensland are chosen based on the merits of their work.
- The process involves students submitting 2 documents on specific subjects and genres set by the Brisbane Urban Environmental Education Centre.
- The documents must be written by the student without the aid of helpers such as parents or teachers. The documents are then assessed and compared by the staff at the Brisbane Urban Environmental Education Centre.
- The students are then chosen and travel via train, bus or plane to live-in at the Ekka to become involved in special educational activities as well as discovering and enjoying the Ekka experiences.
Show Camp allows students to use the latest digital technology to communicate Ekka stories and experiences to classmates, families and the general public via the newspaper, the ‘Ekka Courier’ and podcasts. |
